The Earth Is Not Flat So Doesn't It Contradict Itself and What We Know?

Supposed contradiction and verses:

 The Bible contradicts itself and what we know as the earth to be round.

 Isaiah 40:22

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

 Matthew 4:8

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

   The atheist contends, as we know that the earth is round, a spherical shape, and no matter how tall a mountain is, you canít see the entire earth unless it is flat. This seems to contradict the view of the earth as round as seen in Isaiah as well. Does it though? No. Letís look at two very easy explanations. First letís look at an Old Testament passage.

Deuteronomy 34:1-3

1 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,

2 And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,

3 And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.

    Moses was able to see the entire Promised Land, the land of Canaan from Mount Nebo. Kingdoms of the world can be a figurative language for this area, if that is where they went. Why though, what was in this area that he (Satan) thought Jesus might cave in to? The Jews, Godís chosen people! And as we know, Salvation had not been offered to the Gentiles yet, nor was it part of the picture because Jesus had not started His ministry yet. So Satan would have thought it quite easy to offer them up and basically say he would not persecute Godís chosen people any more if Jesus would do this. Little did Satan know the defeat that was in store for him at the Cross.

  The second explanation is that quite frankly, we arenít dealing with two ordinary men here. Yes, Jesus was relying on His human side to fulfill the Law and to lead to the Cross, but Satan, though a fallen angel is quite powerful. It would be no small thing for him to offer a panorama view or the Earth to try and trick Jesus. In either case, there is no contradiction!
