Supposed contradiction and verses:
Is everyone descendants of Adam and Eve? Or is Melchisedec different?
And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
All people are descendants of Adam & Eve. What the skeptic did not do is try to understand the context of the verses in Hebrews. There are two priesthoods being compared here, the order of Aaron from which are the Levitical priests, and the order of Melchisedec. The writer in Hebrews goes on to show the superiority of Melchisedec over the Levites, and then goes a step further to show the even greater superiority of Jesus Christ as our high priest:
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
In order to be a priest with the tribe of Levi, one must be tied in genealogies to Aaron. In fact, after the Babylonian captivity, some who were grouped with the Levites and people knew them as such, could not serve as priests when they finally came out of captivity (Ezra 2:59-62). When the passage in Hebrews speaks of Melchisedec and says he is without father or mother, descent, and no beginning or end, it simply means this priesthood before Aaron’s has no genealogy tied to it. They couldn’t research him in their lists, yet accepted him as a priest nonetheless. Jesus’ genealogies are well documented. Matthew chapter 1 records Joseph’s legal line all the way back to Abraham. Luke 2 records the biological line back to Adam through Mary’s side. He was of the tribe of Judah, not Levi. This is where the comparison comes in. The writer is emphasizing that the Jews should not get hung up on genealogies and stumble on Christ, because just as Melchisedec, His priesthood bears no human record, yet, it is MUCH more superior.
There is no contradiction!
