I wasn’t really sure how I wanted to start this article out. There are a couple of subjects that come into one, and the approach to present them has had me thinking. I have become more aware of people’s lack of understanding of what ghosts, souls in limbo, and the like have become over the past couple weeks. As a Christian, it is important to understand, nothing dealing with these beings is anything that we ourselves have any place with. There are countless verses which show that God wants you to have NOTHING to do with mediums, psychics, the spirit world, and the like. One such is:
Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
Familiar spirits can be summed up as the spirit world, but that’s where all this gets confusing to a lot of people, partly, by my estimation, because of what many think happens to us when we die. Let me explain. Many people profess that as soon as you die, you go immediately to Heaven or Hell immediately. There are several problems with that, one being, that for someone to do such, they have already received punishment thus it eliminates a need for the Great White Throne judgment. Remember, Paul tells us that we are appointed to death, then judgment…not judgments. God is a just God, and He will judge those without Christ and sentence them to an everlasting Hell, but He will not do it twice. Also, many will quote this verse to say we go right away…
2nd Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Paul is not saying what people read into this at all! He does not say as soon as we are absent from the body we are present. He is saying He would rather be out of the body and in the presence of the Lord. It’s the choice we ALL should want, as this life is temporary and Jesus is the big picture, but it in no way translates Him saying we go immediately. It is looking to the blessed hope we have in Jesus that we will be raised, and have glorified bodies, and live with Jesus forever and ever! What the Bible does tell us about the dead, is that they sleep. When Jesus went to raise Lazarus, He said he slept (John 11:12-14). Old Testament and New Testament both describe the dead as sleeping, and not knowing anything. In fact, Paul’s conversation on the rapture when Jesus returns is VERY pointed that we sleep:
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
It is crystal clear that the dead are asleep. And this is a source of information that troubles many a Christian because first, it goes against what “everybody” normally says, and it doesn’t sound as good to the ears. But I submit this to you, there is a huge reason this is called sleep. When you are asleep, think about what you remember once you wake up. Nothing, except a dream maybe, but you know what I am saying here. 8 hours of sleep would go by and you wouldn’t know it. That’s what the point of the description of sleeping is. If you are in the ground for 1 day, or 2000 years, when Christ returns for us, it would be as if you had just taken your last breath anyway, you would know absolutely no different. I want you to use one of the senses God gave you right now. It’s called common sense. If your “soul” goes immediately to be with God, why is Jesus coming to raise the dead and living bodies back? I mean, when we read all verses pertaining to our rapture, we know that He is coming for us….it’s not a case of part of us is coming with Him to get a body out of the ground and unite it back together. Scripture will not support that thought! Jesus said He would not drink from the cup again until we were with Him, and that He is coming again for us. If people are already in His presence, that statement can’t be true!
Further, I’d like you to consider one last thing and that is to ask yourself, if God would take someone from Heaven and have them live on this old world again after being there with Him, and I hope you say no. To that, I ask you to review this verse….
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
The saints that slept arose and went into Jerusalem and talked with people! First let me say, the fact is this, if we did die and go straight to Heaven, that would be great, but I feel it is clear we do not, and this plays a big bearing on the rest of this article, because of this false belief, Christians have played into this false ghost world of friends and family, good ghosts and bad ghosts, that walk around moving things. It is because that with this false theory, Christians have imagined loved ones “looking down” smiling at them. That in itself is not a possibility either. When we are finally with Jesus, there will be no more tears. If you could see a loved one (and by the way, you couldn’t because you’re not omnipotent) and they suffered, you’d be sad. It rushes in the Catholic saint-hood lie of dead family ministering to you, of a loved one visiting you to say they are okay, and the like. It is huge, because what many people don’t understand, is these ghosts, apparitions, and so forth are nothing more than demons! And THAT is where we now turn our attention.
The Bible tells us of an epic event that took place in Heaven among the angels. Lucifer, who was the most beautiful of all Creation, decided He could be like the Most High God. In doing so, he took 1/3 of the angels with him. They were cast from Heaven as their abode to the earth, and then the story picked up with Satan in the Garden of Eden. Hopefully you know that story. As a result, Satan accuses us both day and night, see, he still has access to Heaven, he just can’t stay there. Job chapters 1& 2 tell us that as well as Revelation 12:10. These angels that fell with Satan, they are still angels, but because of what they did, and the fact they work with Satan to try and deceive the world, they are called demons. They have lost none of their powers, wisdom, etc. Angels are extremely powerful. We know that they can transform themselves to human form such as with Lot at Sodom & Gomorrah. We know they appear in dreams, that they can hold back forces, they can give messages, they can perform signs and wonders, and the list goes on.
1st John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
We have seen evidence where demons perform miracles for the likes of Benny Hinn, Todd Bentley, even people that don’t profess to be Christian. When Moses turned his staff to a snake, the wizards before Pharaoh were able to do the same thing. From all this I want you to understand something that Paul plainly presents to us in scripture:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
We really have no idea what an angel is capable of. We are battling a world we can’t see unless they are made manifest to us. But we know that they are able to do things we can’t even begin to imagine. So the next point I have to make is over ghosts, dead walking the earth, zombies, aliens, family revisiting, etc. In order for a human being to become a ghost, they would have to be held in limbo, but the Bible is clear, the souls of humans are NOT in limbo. The dead do NOT come back in spirit form to talk to us. With the exceptions I gave earlier about the dead being brought back to life by Jesus or the apostles…the dead are DEAD!!!!!
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
No walking dead. No humans that became ghosts. No re-incarnation. No dead loved ones watching over you. No “good” ghosts turning on your record player or flipping light switches on. Here is the truth that scripture so plainly revels. These are demons that transform themselves. THAT is what anyone who deals with psychics, paranormal, ghosts, Ouija boards, witchcraft, haunted houses, and the like deal with.
2nd Corinthians 11:14
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
I have seen so many professing Christians caught up in this world of mystery of chasing ghosts, believing in them, thinking it is ok to talk to the dead. It is a lie! You have been deceived. And you are on dangerous ground. RUN!!! God called what you are doing an abomination!!
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Now before anyone tries to say that was something for the Jews, or was just Old Testament and doesn’t apply to us, get your facts straight and come back to me with something better. God is sovereign and holy. If it were an abomination then, it is still now as God changes not nor winks at sin. We are grafted in to His chosen ones and His Holy Laws are still in effect. We don’t have to obey the Levitical laws passed down because we are under grace and not the law, but as I said, if it was a sin before, it is still a sin. And this is called an abomination. NO Christian has any place delving into it what-so-ever. And if you are a person who chooses to try and justify it still, you are fooling no-one but yourself. You have a choice to make:
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
In His Grace,
