1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
From the very first verse, we should take away from this that the life of a Christian is one that should be able to be looked at and seen as different than the rest of the world, not one that fits in. What are we doing for the Lord in our life that separates us from looking like those who are in sin? Maybe the more important question is what are we doing that DOESN’T make us look different? If the world sees us doing the same things they are, then they will wonder why they need Jesus if they are already the same! Your life is a testimony.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
The final thinking point I wish to present is captured in the very next verse, verse two. We are in a spiritual battle, and the cares of this world, and the filth in it, often carry our mind away from God. We should meditate on God and His will constantly through the day. To do that, we must eliminate things that cause those thoughts to enter our mind to begin with, and it is often hard choices. The music we listen to, the shows we watch, and the books we read. If anything you delve into in those realms is not something you would be comfortable sitting next to Jesus reading, listening to, or watching, you are only fooling yourself thinking it is ok to do so. The Bible is clear on what we should think on. What’s in your brain?
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
