Why No Christian Should Practice Yoga

Is it just another exercise method that has benefits that far outweigh anything else? Tell me what you think. These are postures or poses that are offered to the 330 million Hindu gods. Yoga postures really are offerings or sacrifices to the gods. If you do these postures, the breathing techniques, and this meditation; then you will be accepted by a god, little “g” intended, because it won’t be God, YHWH, the only true and living God. You can see people in India in the streets doing Yoga poses in front of the statues of these gods.

 Romans 12:1

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

With Yoga, you are doing the above with these poses to their 330 million gods and it should scare you!

 Acts 15:29

That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

In Yoga, pranayama breathing is practiced. Prana is the Hindu word for life force, the same concept as the word chi in martial arts, and is part of far eastern mystical religions. This breathing technique is an attempt to take that over, and you are walking on dangerous ground in doing so. Paul stated in Ephesians 2:2 that Satan is the prince of the air. This doesn’t mean what you are breathing. Christians are covered by the blood of Jesus, we are under his care; yet, when you start doing these things for other gods, you remove yourself from the protection, and you can’t deal with the adversary and his minions

A third area of concern in Yoga is the concept of emptying the mind, a form of which has come about in the Emrgent Church with using contemplative prayer. This is contradictory to what Christianity teaches. “We are transformed by the renewing of our minds”, not emptying it, or chanting a couple words while in a trance-like state. That is contrary to what God wants.

 Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

There is also the aspect of astral projection, also called astral travel, which is something heavy in Wicca, Withcraft, and Satanism. This is where people actually leave their body, floating elsewhere, and being taken control of by a “spirit”. This spirit, just as those who get visited at séances, are by a demon. Often, people don’t even know what happened during this time when they are “gone”, but of greater concern is what got in YOU while you weren’t there! A Christian may not become possessed by a demon, certainly a non-Christian would, but one could be oppressed by a demonic spirit and that in itself can be spiritually destructive to your salvation without you even knowing it! However, one needs to ask, why would a Christian take part in such a thing? Clearly, with this understanding of yoga, Christians should run away from Yoga. The FACT it is worship to false God is condemned by God Himself!

 Exodus 20:3
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

 1 Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from all appearance of evil.

 Ephesians 5:11

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

 2nd Corinthians 6:14-18

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
